Release 0.5 and plans for the future

Hi all,

Soon, v0.5 will be released. I have decided, however, to change my release plan. v0.5 will be a release of minor importance, just to get the project going again with a new codebase. v0.6 will be the release introducing new features. Depending on the demand after that, we’ll go to v0.7 or v1.0.

  1. First off, let me say that I think eCoder is a great little IDE for the web. One feature which I would really like would be the ability to add a simple web browser tab. A tab where you could type in any url and go to that site (with reload, close, etc.. buttons).

One of the unique features of eCoder is that it works (mostly) with older browsers such as IE8. I hope the new features that are planned don’t take away support for the older browsers that some of us are unfortunately stuck on.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

    • Hi Dan,

The browsertab seems an interesting suggestion. In 0.6 tabs should become more flexible and your proposal may be a nice addition. I’ll see what I can do.

Concerning older browsers: that is a bit difficult. To some extent we are already in the process of deprecating support for older browsers (some HTML5/JS API-related stuff, like upload, won’t work in IE lte 9) and I’m afraid that as Ecoder progresses this will become more common. It takes a lot of work to support older browsers and at the moment that unfortunately isn’t a priority. Maybe a portable chrome or firefox or the chrome frame IE-plugin would help?

  2. This a great tool.
On the tab web browser… you are already running this in a browser, why would you need a browser in a browser? Maybe the time can be spent on other features. Anyway, keep up the good work.
